Frequently asked Questions on Personal Training

[Home]

 Q: What are your rates?

A: My fee is $40 per 1 Hr/Session. I do not accept credit cards at this time.

Q: Why should I pay for a trainer? Some gyms offer free personal training.

A: The cliché “you get what you pay for” holds true in this case.  Gyms offer free personal training many of those offers are classic bait and switch techniques to get you to sign a contractual commitment.  The training is usually not personal and sub-par.  Some of the "trainers" are not even certified or experienced.

Q: What qualifies you to train me?

A:  I have been active in martial arts and physical fitness for over 18 years.  I have made the mistakes and spent years learning how to perform exercises the correct way with the least amount of time.  You are not just paying for a certification with me (anyone can get that) but for years of experience.  Furthermore you will have the comfort of  knowing that I will show you how to  exercise the correct way the first time.  This will save you time, money and possible injury in the long run.

Q: How long does a session last?

A: Training sessions last one hour.  The goal is one hour or less for better long term adherence. This way you will get  the best workout in the least amount of time.

Q: How many times a week should I come to you?

A: Depends on our schedules, affordability etc…  In the beginning I suggest a minimum of two sessions/week.  This allows expedited results and curtails loss of interest.

Q: I have motivation.  How long before I have a schedule of my own. That I could follow and go off on my own?

A: I suggest at least twelve sessions, that should give you a concrete understanding of how to perform the weight training and the cardio program on your own.  You are always welcome to return for refresher sessions at your convenience.

Q: How long before I see results?

A: That depends on how often you come as well as exercise on your own.  If you come two-three times/week. You will start feeling better and more invigorated within the first week or two.

Q: As a woman I do not want to look bulky.  I heard that lifting weights makes you look like a man will that happen to me?

A: No!  I design a program specific to your needs.  That means if you want a sleek slender look, you will get a program to accomplish that.  Also if strength or bulk are what you seek.  I can help with that as well.

Q: I heard you should only do aerobics in the beginning.  Then when you lose the fat  begin doing weights.  Would that be the best route or what you suggest?

A:  I start off  my clients with both weight resistance and cardio exercises.  Realize that for every pound of lean muscle you have, you burn between 20-40 extra calories  per day.  So, if you gained 5 pounds of lean muscle and lost 5 pounds of fat tissue, you would weigh the same.  But, you would  look leaner and more toned because of your better body composition (lean/fat ratio).  Also, as a result, you would burn between 100-200 more calories a day, even while you sleep and decrease preventable health risks.

Q: I am afraid of injuring myself is your program safe?

A: Yes.  I teach you proper form, range of motion, breathing and body mechanics.  This will ensure that you will get the safest and most efficient workout possible.

Q: I am intimidated by gyms and I have no experience should I come?

A: Yes, the program is one on one and begins with a schedule catered to your current exercise level and physical experience.  I will get all your baseline information about you in our initial interview.  This information is what I use to design your program.  Meaning if you are a beginner you will start of lighter and slower.  More intermediate clients will have a more challenging and faster workout.  There is no need for intimidation here just chose your radio station relax and I will show you what to do.  All questions are welcome and addressed.
